The Thornhill Reds trekked up the 404 on Tuesday night and mercied the Newmarket Hawks 16-4 to move into first place in the GTBL standings at 5-2.
Lee Choiniere(1-0) worked two innings in relief to secure the win, with Josh Appel and Pat Orr working scoreless frames to ensure a seven inning final. Russ McGibbon had four hits and four RBI, including his second home run of 2018. Gianfranco Morello continued a white hot year, going 3-5, hitting his second long ball, and scoring three times.
The Reds are right back at it Wednesday night, when they host the Leaside Leafs at Bishops Cross. Thornhill will be looking to avenge an opening night 3-2 loss to the Leafs, and will send Mack Major(2-0) to the mound.
