Thornhill Reds Senior Baseball

Reds ready for busy week

With half of the GTBL regular season behind them, the Thornhill Reds currently sit at 10-3 and are ready for a busy week ahead. The Reds will play three games in three nights all against tough opponents. Wednesday night will see Thornhill put their unblemished 8-0 home record on the line when they host the scorching hot East York Bulldogs at Bishops Cross. Joe Presutti is scheduled to take the ball for the Reds, in a game that could be for first place in the league standings. Thursday the Reds head to Leaside, and will be looking to avenge a late inning collapse at Talbot Park in late June. Friday night the Reds head east to Pickering, for a matchup with the Red Sox at Don Beer Park.

Quickly approaching is the Hap Walters Tournament and the highlight of the year, the provincial eliminations. The second half of the season only gets tougher, and the Reds have shown they have the pieces to play with anyone. It should be a fun month as everything reaches crunch time, and lots of great baseball gets played.

Reds win Vaughan tourney

The Thornhill Reds are the 2016 Vaughan Vikings Senior Tournament champions. The Reds gutted out five straight wins in a little more than twenty four hours in capturing the first AAA tournament title of 2016. The weekend was a total team effort, as everyone contributed in many ways, which has become the standard in the Reds success this season. Total box scores from the weekend will be posted over the next day, and the Reds next action is Wednesday night at home when they host the Martingrove Sox at Bishops Cross at 730pm.

Reds win three on Saturday and head to semis on Sunday

With three wins on Saturday in the Vaughan Vikings Senior Tournament the Thornhill Reds are into the semi finals Sunday morning at 11am.

The Reds played good baseball all day, and will face the Ilderton Red Army in one of two semi final matchups. The other semi final features the Newmarket Hawks and the Etobicoke Rangers.

Josh Appel will take the ball in the morning for the Reds, as they look to advance to the final later in the day.

First place Reds notch two win week

After back to back wins in GTBL action, the Thornhill Reds are 7-1 and own first place after one month of the 2016 season.

Chadwick Cameron(4-0) was his usual self Wednesday night, when he tossed seven innings of stellar baseball, and led the Reds to a 5-1 win at home against the Pickering Red Sox. Sean Sutton had a three hit night for Thornhill, as the Reds banged out twelve hits en route to the home win.

Thursday night the shorthanded Reds managed an 8-3 road win at Martingrove, in a game that was close until the seventh inning. Mike Jones(1-0) scooped the win in relief, after Mitch Sutton worked the first five, leaving in a 1-1 tie. Jacob Hillier had a great night with the stick for the Reds, collecting three hits including a booming double in the fifth. Hunter Greenough worked the final three innings in his GTBL debut, allowing one hit and one run, while striking out four in earning a save. The game did not come without consequence for Thornhill however, as starting shortstop Argenis Paz was forced to leave in the first inning with a leg injury.

Reds split in Quebec

After opening up the Quebec/Ontario challenge with an awful 17-4 loss against Shawinigan, the Reds bounced back to beat the host, and first place team in the LBMQ, St. Jean 4-3.

The Reds did not advance to the playoff round on Sunday, but the win Saturday evening featured an excellent eight inning performance on the mound from rookie Josh Appel(1-0).  He allowed just two earned runs while striking out eight. Sean Sutton walked it off for the Reds in the bottom of the eighth with a one out single, in an extra frame that used international rules.

The Reds play twice this week in GTBL action, a home date Wednesday against Pickering, and travel to Martingrove Thursday night for a date with the Sox.
