Thornhill Reds Senior Baseball

Reds bow out in five games

The Thornhill Reds gave it a good shot, but ultimately fell short in their quest for an elusive Nationals berth as one of the top two teams in Ontario.

The Reds finished at 3-2 on the weekend, eliminating the perennial powerhouse Windsor Stars in round four. Thornhill lost 4-0 to runner up Mississauga SW, on Sunday afternoon, showing they are right in the mix among the province's best.

Thornhill plays their final four league games this week in GTBL action, and if the club can muster three wins, they will claim the GTBL pennant and a first place finish. Failing that, a second place finish seems imminent. Both first and second place finishers in league play receive first round byes for the preliminary playoff round, and advance to one of two semi finals.

Reds cream Hawks in Elims opener

The Thornhill Reds stormed out of the gate in their 2017 Provincial Championship Tournament, posting five runs in the top of the first inning, and cruising to a 10-1 opening round win against the Newmarket Hawks.

Mack Major(1-3) was outstanding on the mound for the Reds. The rookie right hander surrendered one unearned run over six innings of work. Mitch Sutton recorded the final three outs, sending the Reds into round two with a 1-0 record on the weekend.

The rest of Friday was lost to rain, and round two will resume Saturday morning.

Reds headed to London

The Thornhill Reds head to London this weekend looking for their first Ontario Elimination Tournament Championship. The twenty two team field features teams from Kingston to Windsor, with the finals slated for Monday at Labatt Stadium.

First up for the Reds is the Newmarket Hawks, who will see Mack Major on the hill for Thornhill. Updates will be here, on twitter or at gtbl.ca.

Reds start big stretch with mercy win

The lead up to the 2017 Provincial Elimination Tournament is a busy one for the Thornhill Reds. The Reds play five game in six days as they prepare for the big weekend in London which is quickly approaching.

Thornhill improved to 12-4 in league play Wednesday night, with a lopsided 14-0 win against Newmarket. Chadwick Cameron(3-2) surrendered two hits over six innings to collect the win, while Joe Presutti blasted a grand slam to lead the offense. Kris Fielding hit his second home run of 2017, and finished with three hits and four RBI.

Saturday night the Reds will start Josh Appel(3-1) and Dan Lehmkuhl(5-0) when they travel to Centennial Park for a double dip. Mack Major(0-3) will toe the rubber Sunday in Pickering, Monday's starter in East York is still up in the air.

Reds go 2-1 at the Hap

The Thornhill Reds 2-1 record on the weekend wasn't quite enough and after allowing 10 runs in the round robin, they failed to qualify for Sunday's quarter finals.

The Reds won the first two contests 6-2 over Ilderton and 12-2 over Burlington, but a 6-2 loss to Etobicoke prevented the Reds from advancing.

Thornhill next plays Wednesday night at home against the Newmarket Hawks, where Chadwick Cameron will make the start on the hill for the Reds.
