Thornhill Reds Senior Baseball

Reds begin 2018 preperations

The Thornhill Reds have started indoor workouts in preparation for a busy 2018 season. The Reds are planning to play an extra tournament this summer, adding the new Brampton tournament to their yearly regulars. With the loss of the Quebec exchange, the Reds were lucky to be included in the also newly formed Capital City invitational tournament in Ottawa on Canada Day long weekend.

Look for some player updates over the next month, as the Reds will once again add some talent, and expect to announce some exciting names.

Reds fall in league final

Another year of Thornhill Reds senior baseball has come to an end. The Reds fell in the final game of the 2017 GTBL championship 6-1 to the Pickering Red Sox, who won the series 3-1 and were named the league champions.

The Reds had a great year, adding a number of key pieces and playing five rounds at the provincial tournament. 2018 looks very promising, stay tuned over the winter for team updates and information.

Ugly

The Thornhill Reds are having problems winning ball games at Don Beer Park late in 2017. The Reds dropped their second straight road contest in Pickering Monday night, falling 10-4 in game three of the GTBL championship series.

Josh Appel(5-2) took the loss, and the Reds find themselves with their backs against the wall, needing two straight victories in order to repeat as GTBL champs.

Game four is Wednesday night at Bishops Cross, where Chadwick Cameron takes the ball, looking to extend the Reds season.

Major wills Reds to series tie

A gutty complete game effort from righty Mack Major(4-3) propelled the Thornhill Reds to a 5-2 home win, and evened the GTBL championship final best of five at 1-1.

It was another tight ball game as the Reds led 1-0 headed to the eighth inning, coughing up the lead on a costly two out error which allowed a 2-1 Pickering advantage headed to the bottom of the inning. The Reds rallied for four in the home half,  took care of business in the ninth, and knotted the series ahead of game three.

Thornhill travels to Don Beer Park in Pickering on Monday night for game three.

Reds lose a heartbreaker

Headed to the bottom of the ninth inning in game one of the GTBL finals, the Thornhill Reds and Pickering Red Sox were tied 0-0. It took just one hitter to break the tie, a walk off home run for Pickering OF Pete Ricciardi. The 1-0 final gives Pickering the same 1-0 lead in the best of five finale.

Chadwick Cameron(4-3) went the distance, and was saddled with the tough luck loss. He scattered five hits, while striking out seven Red Sox, in a game he certainly deserved to win.

Game two is Saturday at Bishops Cross, 2:30pm start time. Mack Major takes the ball for Thornhill.
