Thornhill Reds Senior Baseball

Reds lose a heartbreaker

Headed to the bottom of the ninth inning in game one of the GTBL finals, the Thornhill Reds and Pickering Red Sox were tied 0-0. It took just one hitter to break the tie, a walk off home run for Pickering OF Pete Ricciardi. The 1-0 final gives Pickering the same 1-0 lead in the best of five finale.

Chadwick Cameron(4-3) went the distance, and was saddled with the tough luck loss. He scattered five hits, while striking out seven Red Sox, in a game he certainly deserved to win.

Game two is Saturday at Bishops Cross, 2:30pm start time. Mack Major takes the ball for Thornhill.

Reds to meet Red Sox in GTBL final

The Thornhill Reds will play the Pickering Red Sox in a best three out of five series to determine the 2017 GTBL champion. Chadwick Cameron will take the ball in game one for the Reds, which goes tonight in Pickering at Don Beer Park.

The Reds are looking to repeat as league champions, a feat they last did in 2013/14.

Reds headed back to final

The Thornhill Reds moved one step closer to repeating as GTBL champions, eliminating the East York Bulldogs with a 5-4 come from behind home win. A two run, two out double off the bat of Russ McGibbon proved to be the winning blow, as the Reds swept the GTBL semi final two games to none.

Lee Choiniere(1-0) worked two scoreless frames in relief of starter Josh Appel, and earned the victory. Chadwick Cameron faced three hitters in the ninth to secure the victory and recorded his first save of the year.

The Reds await the winner of the Pickering and Leaside series, which will determine who Thornhill will meet in the final. The Reds are seeking their fourth GTBL title in five seasons.

Reds open title defence with win

The Thornhill Reds struck first in the 2017 semi final best two out of three against East York, with a 5-3 road win Monday night. Thornhill opened on the road although they owned home field advantage, and now will get to play the final two games(if necessary) on home soil.

Mack Major(3-3) fired a complete game for the win, scattering eight hits and striking out five. He allowed just one earned run, and had East York hitters baffled most of the night. Kravice Batts and Warren Kember had two hits apiece to lead the offense.

Game two goes Wednesday at Bishops Cross, Josh Appel(5-1) gets the nod.

Reds earn first round bye

With a 16-7 finish, the Thornhill Reds secured second place overall and a first round bye in the GTBL playoffs. The Reds will await the winners of the East York/Martingrove and Leaside/Newmarket series, and play the highest seed to advance. Pickering, the first place finisher, will play the lowest seed to advance in the other best two of three final.

The Reds wish three of their rookies all the best for their 2018 college season, as Gianfranco Morello, Zach Lampreia and Peter Joseph have all returned to the US and will miss the GTBL playoffs.
